Join us on Thursday 17th of October to visit LNP State Member for Clayfield Tim Nicholls at his Clayfield electoral office, to request that the LNP tell us their plans for the protection of landholder objection rights over fossil fuel projects, the protection of our prime agricultural land and water from fossil fuel extraction and expansion, and how the LNP plans to tackle the climate crisis should they be elected in October.
Over the past months, we have been contacting and visiting Tim Nicholls' office requesting that the party commit to protecting Queensland’s prime agricultural land from coal mines and coal seam gas, stand with our local farmers and rule out any further expansion of the petroleum industry and the damage it will inflict on our best farmland. We have sought confirmation from the LNP that they will take policies to the Qld State Election in just a few short weeks that lock in protections for agricultural land and unequivocally reject new coal mines and plans to expand existing coal seam gas operations.
However, despite the LNP acknowledging that coal seam gas extraction is causing extremely productive farmland in the Darling Downs to sink, severely reducing farmer’s ability to grow crops for the Queensland population, Tim Nicholls' office is yet to respond to our concerns or meet with local constituents who are seeking details of the LNP's policies and plans to protect our land, water and climate.
Queensland farmland is far too precious to risk for short-term profits that benefit the petroleum industry instead of Queenslanders. Queensland voters deserve to know what the LNPs policies will be and what their plan is to deal with these critical issues.
Will you join us this Thursday to help pressure the Tim Nicholls and the LNP to commit to protect our land, water and climate?
