The Lock the Gate Gasfield Free long table lunch at Northey Street City Farm on Sunday 14th of July brought people together over a delicious meal, refreshing beverages and a shared passion for protecting land, water and community from the impacts of coal and gas extraction. We heard from farmers fighting to keep fossil fuel companies off their precious farmland, and chatted about the fun and creative actions and events we're planning for the next few months of the election campaign.
Darling Downs farmer Liza Balmain came along to share her story in the fight against irreversible damaging coal seam gas, highlighting that "it’s critical that this scarce land is saved for our next generations”.
Innes Larkin of Mt Barney Lodge shared his thoughts, saying “my call to action in this election, in every election - look after those who don’t have a voice. Our environment, our farming communities are quiet but not forgotten, and we need them, we need them deeply.”
